How To Help Your Child Overcome Shyness

Not so long ago a client came to me asking if we can help one of the children overcome shyness. For those who don’t know, in GSR if a parent is concerned about something going on with his(her) child, first we deal with the parent’s concerns.

While discussing the client’s concerns we discovered that the reason is the fear that the child could miss the opportunities that the client missed once in her life herself. And the scenarios in the session were recognized as the ones played out with both the client’s child and her mother.

A few weeks later the client’s feedback was: ‘Everything I had noticed before(the signs of shyness) just vanished. I’m not even sure anymore if there really was something to worry about. I stopped nagging my daughter and left her alone’.

Obviously, we didn’t request any feedback from the unaware child. She might even never know the reason something changed in her life imperceptibly.

And I thought it’s a could occasion to remind myself and everyone around me that sometimes just one GSR session can liberate us from concerns, that move us to involve our children in solving a problem we do have, but they might not.

And perhaps sometimes the very best thing we can do for our children is GSR sessions for ourselves…
